KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 9, 2019) – A 39th-minute penalty kick conversion for Farmingdale State lifted the visiting Rams over the USMMA men's soccer team on Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 8-4 (5-1 Skyline), while FSC improves to 7-6 (4-1 Skyline) with the win.
The Mariners really dominated the play most of the night – outshooting the Rams, 18-4. They had a few really good chances early, as they fired off the first six shots of the game in the opening 20 minutes, including one that hit the left post by senior Matt McCurnin (Newark, Del.), a couple that went just wide of the net and another that was saved.
A PK was called against Merchant Marine in the 39th minute after a hard tackle at the top of the box. Farmingdale senior Daniel Mehryari was called on to take it and he shot it low to the right to open the scoring.
The Rams' freshman goalkeeper Justin Silva went on to post the shutout after finishing the night with three saves, while senior Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) made one stop on the night for USMMA.
The Mariners return to action this Saturday, Oct. 12, when they travel up to the Bronx to face Mount St. Vincent in a Skyline showdown beginning at 3 p.m. at the Dolphins' Athletic Field at Marillac. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
